八位

The classification or grades of disciples according to the Tiantai [lang id =1028]圓教 perfect teaching, i.e.

(1) [lang id =1028]觀行卽 grade of the five classes, or stages, of lay disciples;

(2) [lang id =1028]相似卽 grade of the ten classes of or ordinary monks and nuns; above these are the [lang id =1028]分真卽bodhisattva stages of those progressing towards Buddhahood i.e.　

(3) [lang id =1028]十住,

(4) [lang id =1028]十行,

(5) [lang id =1028]十廻向,

(6) [lang id =1028]十地,

(7) [lang id =1028]等覺, and

(8) the perfect or Buddha stage [lang id =1028]究竟卽, i.e. [lang id =1028]妙覺. Cf. [lang id =1028]六卽.
